Aveda's Congress

I had the pleasure of being at Aveda's 2008 Congress sold out at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in Mpls, MN. Congress is an Aveda event held every 3 years, this year; celebrating 'Thirty Years of the Aveda Mission.' The Aveda team put on an incredible show featuring the very talented Antoinette Beenders, Ray Civello, Van Council, Kozo, David Adams, Rudy Miles, Lupe Voss, Gerard Scarpaci, Frank Rizzieri, Peter Gray, Derrick Scurry, Yuji Okawa, Wachs & Wachs & Zians, Jeffrey Scott, Kurt Kueffner, world renowned editorial genius: Christiaan and many others. One of the highlights of the 2 day event was meeting Chief Tashka of the Yawanawa tribe. Aveda has partnered with the Brazilian tribe to formulate their Autumn/Winter Makeup Collection. It was a valuable time for me, a moment to be very proud of the company I work with. Aveda is doing some really innovative things; leading the way to a better, more earth friendly, hair care industry. In fact, this year was their 'greenest' Congress to date!

Christiaan Houtenbos, of the Netherlands held an Editorial Workshop at Miyagi Salon. He is known for the 'undercut' & creating 'cracks' in the back of guests hair [featured below]. His work has been seen in W, Vogue, New York Times, V, Interview, & more. It was a delight hearing his stories & seeing some of his well-known work.
